The fish house offers various types of fish, but the most popular by far is its whitefish. When it comes to fish, a great deal of what people see in the result is how the fish is handled, from being caught to when it makes it onto a plate for dinner. They are known for being the best-smoked fish in the Upper Peninsula. Thill’s Fish House is located along Marquette Lower Harbor and also has a Facebook page.

Jean Kay’s Pasties & Subs

Jean Kay’s Pasties & Subs 7 min

Vegetables or steak with rutabaga is wrapped in a flaky crust made with butter solids and beef suet. Spice it up with some house-made “Kickin’ Pasty Sauce.” Jean Kay’s Pasties & Subs get a lot of love. And why not? It is a Marquette restaurant in the Upper Peninsula. The original shop opened in 1975, then because the owner sold it because he was doing so well he could retire early. But the original owner repurchased it so Jean Kay’s name would use the authentic recipe, the one their grandma used to make. Owner Brian Harsch has been in the pasty business for over 40 years, and his team produces hundreds of pasties a day. Either way, the shop is worth a stop. You can see the dough rollers through the window on one side, and the other side is the front-of-house.
